Zen Hotel Versilia

Really lovely hotel, with clean, beautiful rooms. The breakfast was exceptionally good.

The bikes we rented at the hotel were filthy and covered in oil, and neither one had working lights. When we raised it, staff just handed us paper towels and alcohol so we could clean them ourselves. We brought it up again at checkout the next day, but still had to pay the full bike rental price. The hotel itself was clean, but had no charm. Staff weren’t very friendly, the bed was uncomfortable, and the very old hair dryer switched off every 30 seconds.

The restaurant staff were kind and professional, and the food was good. We had a room that was supposed to be a suite, but it smelled like a cesspool the whole time. You could smell poo as soon as you walked in. At checkout, management charged us for an extra bike rental. We’d hoped they might do us a favor over the train tickets we hadn’t ordered. Nice one, guys. They chase small charges instead of caring about customer satisfaction. It didn’t reflect Italian hospitality or mentality at all. We did have cozy experiences at the local beaches and bars.

The pool and its rooftop views were amazing, and the beach is lovely and close by. The service really made our stay. The receptionist with short blond hair couldn’t do enough for us: she suggested places to visit, arranged a trip, printed all the details and maps in English, recommended wines, and even found us a room to rent since our flight home was very late. The waiting staff were amazing too. Food was mixed. The breakfast buffet, first course and dessert at dinner were good, but the main course could be disappointing. Meat was sometimes very dry, and fish had little taste. Portions were a bit big as well. The wine tips from one of the waiting staff were always spot on, and we certainly drank enough of it! 😁
