The fresh air and lovely natural surroundings were especially welcome in the heat of an Italian summer. It’s a cozy trattoria in a really striking area, and the people and waiters were gentle and helpful. The food was a mixed bag: the antipasto toscano and fritto toscano were nice, but the ragù was quite salty and the pork fillet wasn’t very good. The prices aren’t especially cheap, which you notice when the bill arrives 😜. For a trattoria, you might expect this sort of thing and not be too picky.

The drive up to and back down from the hotel is the one tough part, and it’s not for the faint-hearted, as you’ll find out if you stay. Once there, though, you get a warm welcome at this small, friendly place, which feels like a lovely couples’ getaway. The home-cooked food tastes good, and Pisa and Florence are easy to reach.

We stopped for lunch during a Rapha cycling trip, and everything was spot on: the location high in the northern Tuscan hills, the atmosphere, the staff, and the food.

A lovely mountain spot 😍. Parking was handy, the drinks were lovely, and the waiters and service were absolutely perfect ❤.
