Villa Marrone Luxury Residences

The pool and gardens are beautifully maintained, and the suite is huge. Still, for the high price, it feels like it has seen better days: paint is peeling off the walls, and the complimentary chocolate croissants were left uncovered overnight with ants crawling around them. I was also disappointed about breakfast. I thought it was included when I booked, but the owner or manager clarified in their reply that it wasn’t. What was provided was chocolate croissants for the next morning, along with items already in the room: bread for toast but no toaster, and butter and jam in the fridge. I don’t consider that breakfast when I’ve booked a room with breakfast. The rooms are beautiful and feel royal at first, though closer inspection shows their age. There’s no air conditioning in the bedroom.

Vallerio and his family made our three days special. They were wonderful hosts, and we could help ourselves to fresh eggs and a well-stocked refrigerator. The gardens are exquisite, with native plants, peacocks, and parrots, and the thermal pool is spectacular. The grounds are peaceful, parking is easy, and our room felt luxurious. It’s the most beautiful place we’ve stayed in Europe, and the price was more than fair. Thank you!

The owner’s response to my unhappiness was to kindly suggest I find another hotel myself, with no refund because I’d booked a non-refundable rate. He said it was my fault for not asking beforehand whether a wall blocked the bedroom window and hid the highway. The superior suite I booked felt like a superior scam. From the living room you get a lovely view of the parking area and your rental. The bedroom smells dusty, with huge curtains around the bed that seem not to have been washed since 1800. The window faces a wall, but it doesn’t quite hide the highway, so you can still see trucks going by. I suppose the gap lets in a little daylight. Traffic will probably wake you at 6am. And don’t miss the state-of-the-art shower, just the right size for 1/2 people. Enjoy your stay!

Valerio looked after us so well during our honeymoon at Villa Marrone. We loved the pool and all the spots to unwind around the garden, where we could pick organic fruit and vegetables in the beautiful tropical plants. The accommodation was very luxurious. It really feels like a hidden oasis in Marsala!
