We only lasted one night of the four we'd booked, and I'm so glad we found somewhere else for the other three. Finding the place was difficult, and the owner wasn't helpful. The rooms, bed, bedding and pillows felt like 1940s cast-offs that had been used nonstop. The towels were tiny and line-dried until they felt crunchy. Even as a small person, I couldn't fit sideways into the shower, and the bathroom was so cramped I couldn't turn around. That evening the owner's father came over to explain the microwave, which took 11 minutes to heat a cup of water for tea. They don't speak English and wouldn't read anything from my translation app. The father pushed my hand away while I was trying to communicate with him on it, and he was very angry. He yelled in Italian as if shouting would help me understand. We didn't feel safe. I'd booked two separate itineraries because I decided during planning to stay longer, and the second booking had my last name spelled in Italian. Check-in took over an hour because of the language barrier, and he was unkind throughout. We got no refund for the three unused nights. Hotels.com leaves that decision to the owner, who refused. The worst travel experience I've ever had.
