Casa Domus Bernardiniana

Five stars.

This is a quiet, unpretentious place near the center of Massa Marittima. The simple rooms have the feel you’d expect from a convent, and the staff are exceptionally kind and willing to accommodate special requests. Breakfast is basic. I’d recommend it for anyone looking for a discreet, affordable stay, especially if you don’t care for luxury hotels. It works for longer stays too.

The atmosphere and the staff’s politeness and composure deserve five stars, maybe even eight. The location is worth seven, and the rates certainly earn five. For me, these are the most deserved five stars this month. Well done, really well done. If you expect TVs in the rooms and a Sheraton-style continental breakfast, this isn’t the place for you. But you also won’t pay €30, and you won’t get this atmosphere elsewhere. Well done again!

The breakfast was good, and there’s plenty of private parking. It’s just two minutes from the center of Massa Marittima. The accommodation itself is basic. There’s no TV or air conditioning in the room, and the windows have no screens. The shutters are fixed to the glass, so you can either close the whole window or leave it open and let light in.
