Hotel Excelsior

The hotel is set in a lovely little park in the charming town center, with the beach just across the street. The coastal mountain views were amazing, and I loved the relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast was fantastic, with a huge range of options, including fresh omelettes, pancakes, and crêpes.

The restaurant food was first class, the rooms were lovely, and the hotel is in a great spot in town. We were a group of 24, and when one of us became very ill, the staff helped him and later his wife, who flew over and stayed there. They were so kind, as was every member of staff throughout our stay. The hotel is exceptionally well run, with courteous, professional staff. I can’t fault it.

The hotel makes a great base for exploring the area, with easy trips to Pisa, Luca, Carrara, Cinque Terre and Florence. There’s plenty to see nearby, and the staff can help arrange excursions. Fridays bring a lively local market for shopping and trying local food. We’ve been coming for more than 20 years and are still really happy here. The staff are friendly, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the rooftop suite and restaurant have amazing views. The pool is very well kept, and you can reserve an umbrella at the beach across the street. The rooftop restaurant has an interesting menu and can accommodate allergies, while the new sushi bar is top quality. Breakfast has a huge range, with fresh espresso and cappuccino and pastries delivered each morning.

The beds and pillows were extra comfortable, and the staff were very friendly. Breakfast was a highlight, with chef-made scrambled eggs, fresh-squeezed juices and cappuccino made by a barista. The room had been recently renovated, was very well equipped, and was cleaned more than once a day. Great location near the sea and restaurants. The outdoor pool has towels, sun loungers and a bar. The gym is small but good.
