Al Duomo Relais

Breakfast came with a beautiful view of the Sassi through the window, and the owner made sure our requests were taken into account. She also gave us a detailed look at the town's landmarks. The apartment itself is gorgeous, romantic, and welcoming, with every inch meticulously clean and maintained. The layout between the two levels is stunning, including a lovely upstairs bedroom and bathroom. The downside is that there's no shower up there, since the only one is in the downstairs bathroom. I would have made that bathroom bigger to fit one. I highly recommend staying here and hope to return.

Matera has a way of making you want to come back, and I found it an extremely pleasant kind of addiction. It was my third visit to the city, but my first at Al Duomo Relais, unfortunately. The place is right by the Cathedral, with a high level of comfort and a view over the Sasso Barisano. Its three windows frame a view that's hard to pull yourself away from. The home is splendid, and Angela is part of what makes it so special, alongside her mansion and the city. As Carlo Levi wrote, “Anyone who sees Matera cannot fail to be struck by it, so expressive and touching is its sorrowful beauty.” That quote fits this place so well. Matera, Al Duomo Relais, and Angela really need to be experienced in person, they can't be summed up in a few words.

A fantastic holiday: Maria Angela was friendly, very kind, and efficient, taking care of all our needs. The apartment was beautiful, functional, spotlessly clean, and in a strategic location. And Matera itself is splendid.
