Mario and his wife Anna were wonderful hosts. When I ran into a problem with bus tickets on a national holiday, Mario drove me to a travel agency to meet his friend, and we got the complicated situation sorted out. He also knows a lot about seeing Matera and getting around town. There’s a nice rooftop terrace with views over the rim of the canyon. This is one of the best places you could choose for a stay in Matera. Excellent place.

Lucia greeted us the next morning with a wonderful breakfast on the terrace, which has a stunning view. We only stayed one night, but Mario made us feel at home. Our compact room was modern and had air conditioning, a toilet, shower, and fridge. Mario gave us lots of information, a map, and advice on getting around. The B&B was easy to find and not far from the main town. He’ll also personally take you on another interesting walk if you ask. We really enjoyed the short stay and will definitely come back. Anna and her daughters were great hosts. The place feels historical outside, but inside it’s very modern and clean. It’s romantic and a wonderful place to stay. I’d especially suggest the room with a private courtyard facing the valley, the sunsets and sunrises are breathtaking.
