Agriturismo Giorgio

After five weeks of cycling around Italy without encountering any rudeness, our stay at Agriturismo Giorgio ended on a sour note. Room 8 had no hot water or pressure, and when we raised it with Gabiana, the manager at reception, he brushed us off rudely. The room itself was very basic, with no water or fridge, and the accommodation felt pricey for what was provided. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The town is only a couple of minutes away on foot, and the pool is huge, set on a terrace with views across the olive groves to the sea. We found the breakfasts really tasty, and everyone working there was warm and friendly. The rooms are simply designed, but practical and very clean. A magical spot for a relaxing break, easily one of the best places we've stayed.

We really enjoyed the pool area, with clean water, showers, and a lovely sea view. You could easily spend the whole day there. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the food was delicious. Breakfast was mostly sweet, but when I asked about boiled eggs they offered omelettes or scrambled eggs, then surprised everyone by making boiled eggs the next morning. We ate better here than in town. The setting is quiet and spacious, surrounded by olive trees, with the small town and a few nice restaurants about a ten minute walk away. Our three bed deluxe room had two bedrooms, a large bathroom, and a sitting room with a mini fridge, desk, and sofa. It was quiet, and the air conditioning worked well. The “seaview” room didn't really have a sea view from the house, though, just olive trees in front, with the sea further away. The sea view from the pool was lovely. You need a car to get here, and the entrance could be signposted better because the satnav missed it. The reception and parking areas weren't obvious, and the disorganized parking sometimes made getting in or out difficult. Our room had no windows, which wasn't mentioned and could feel claustrophobic. There wasn't much room for belongings, especially toiletries in the bathroom, though we did have a clothes rack outside for drying towels and swimsuits. The grounds felt rather neglected, which is a shame given how large they are. There's even a little orange and lime grove with a shady place to sit, but it could use more care. The untended, wild feel can be nice, but the place could be so much more. We were also unhappy to have paid for a sea view when the house looked onto olive trees instead. This could be a superb place to unwind if more effort and investment went into the property.

The views are wonderfully panoramic, and the location is excellent, just a short walk from Mattinata centro and the coastal beaches. Breakfast was good, and the evening restaurant served high quality food. I'd happily recommend it.
