B&b Al Ciliegio Del Turchino

We left in the middle of the night to look for somewhere better, which says a lot about our stay. The bed was one of those uncomfortable Italian beds you find in lousy accommodation, and the walls were so thin we could clearly hear our neighbors having fun. We were told the room had a private bathroom, but we actually shared one with guests in another room on the same floor. Privacy and security didn’t seem to matter to the owner. The room and bathroom doors had only lightly frosted glass, so people could see what you were doing. Worse, we discovered that the keys for the bathroom could unlock our room and the other guests’ room too. The owner spoke only Italian and tried to get us to speak into her phone so she could use Google Translate. I’m surprised this place has so many five-star reviews from Italians, but anyway.

A rip-off, deeply disappointing. The room and old rug smelled bad, there was no duvet, and the pillows stank too. Insects were crawling all over. A noisy train right beside the house woke us up, and the bunk beds were tiny children’s beds being used for adults. Supplies were almost nonexistent, just half a roll of toilet paper for three people. The remote location felt scary, and we were disgustingly overcharged. We travel around the world, and this was our worst experience.

A lovely, quiet countryside setting, with a very clean, comfortable place to stay. The owner was polite and excellent.
