Palazzo Marignano Hotel

The receptionist was helpful, and breakfast was typically Italian. The hotel is very nice, and the rooms are clean and pleasant.

The location in the town center is convenient, across from the train station and close to amenities. Room 303, in the annex, was very spacious, with a large bathroom, but the windows looked onto the street and parking lot. Only the street-facing window had a security grille, and none of the windows had mosquito nets. The room was noisy because of the pub next door and its outdoor tables, with noise continuing until 2 a.m. When I arrived late, there was a strange smell that irritated my eyes and nose and made it hard to breathe. I moved the bed away from the wall and found mold under the headboard, which is attached to the wall. I tried calling reception, but the phone wasn't working. There was no one on reception at night, and I hadn't seen the emergency number posted. The hotel was full, so there wasn't another room to move to. I opened the windows and tried sleeping at the foot of the bed in the draft, but it was impossible. In the daylight, the cleaning looked very superficial. There was dust on the bathroom fixtures, tiles, floors, and in the corners by the heater. My slippers were covered in dust fluff, as if they hadn't vacuumed. The mattress had obvious stains and no topper. Staff later said they'd bought one but hadn't fitted it yet. When they arrived, I told them what had happened, and they cancelled the room charge. They said they'd close the room because it was absolutely unsellable in that condition. I hope they do, so no one else, especially someone with allergies or asthma, has to stay there.

The annex room was spacious and clean, with good air conditioning and a large, clean bathroom. I stayed for two nights and would happily come back. Breakfast was really good, and there are some lovely seating areas out front. There's a fairly large parking lot and a supermarket right next door. The train station is very close, too, and the fast connection gets you to Milan in just 5 minutes.

Parking can be a matter of luck in central Melegnano, and if you don't find a spot, you'll have to drive around. Otherwise, the room was spacious and clean, with a comfortable feel and new furnishings. The bathroom was roomy and clean, with everything needed, including a nice shower. Breakfast wasn't especially generous, but there were both savory and sweet options.
