The meal we shared as a couple was one of our trip’s highlights. At Albergo Il Vapore, the homemade food and easygoing welcome made us feel more like we were visiting someone’s home than dining out. Everything felt genuinely Italian, with no fuss or touristy feel. The fresh pasta and other dishes had great flavor, and even simple ingredients were handled with care. The restaurant sits in the heart of Menaggio, in a lovely setting. We left calling it the best lunch we had in Italy, and we’ll remember it for a long time.

We ended up having dinner at the restaurant both nights because we enjoyed the first meal so much. Simone’s fresh pasta and fish were delicious, and it’s popular enough that you should book ahead. We stayed two nights at this family-run Albergo Il Vapore. Pinuccia and Simone were incredibly welcoming, and the hospitality was second to none. Highly recommended.

The lasagna my husband ordered was delicious, but my sirloin was terrible. We were disappointed with dinner overall. The bread wasn’t good either, and there was no olive oil or butter on the table.

Both my husband and I tried different spicy pastas and really enjoyed them. Our son could have pasta with butter, too. The service was excellent, just what we wanted.
