Lake Como Hostel

The hostel’s atmosphere was the best part. I met lovely people in my room and came away with really nice memories of Como. As a woman traveling alone, I had a great stay. I spent one night in a hotel room in Varenna and one in the hostel in Menaggio, and I wish I’d booked both nights at the hostel. It was affordable and easy to reach from the ferry terminal, though there weren’t many bathrooms or showers and there was no kitchen. One tip: don’t leave dinner too late, since most places around there close early, and the late options may just be pizzerias.

Mados deserves a special thank you. He was so helpful, friendly, respectful, and kind, and his care really stayed with me. The whole stay was wonderful, from the comfortable setting and atmosphere to the warm hospitality. It was the best day I’ve ever had, and I’ll remember it happily. I hope to come back.

The view from my window was amazing, and the rooms were so clean and nice. The staff were friendly and gave helpful advice about the area and things to do. It’s quite far from Como, about an hour by bus or boat, though that didn’t bother me. There aren’t many shared places to hang out apart from the restaurant downstairs, which I’d recommend. The under-bed lockers worked well. Bathrooms are separate and were okay, if not the cleanest after lots of guests had used them.

As a woman traveling solo from Australia, feeling safe mattered a lot, and I felt very safe here. Staff explained the emergency procedures at check-in, which I appreciated, and although reception isn’t open around the clock, someone is on site if needed. There’s also a coded back entrance. My arrival was a bit of a mess: I missed my bus stop, walked 15 minutes in the rain, then accidentally came in through the back and hauled my big suitcase up lots of stairs. Matilda and Linda really turned things around. Matilda was welcoming, friendly, and full of practical local tips, and she was happy to answer questions. I also got a free drink voucher that hadn’t been advertised. The restaurant and bar has lovely Lake Como views and a cosy feel, with coffee, drinks, and leftover pastries available through the day, handy when everything seems shut between meal times. Ordering by QR code was convenient. The second floor looks quite new, and my private room and bathroom were very clean. It’s a short walk to the ferry wharf and bus stop for getting to other well known towns. Thanks again, I’d recommend staying here, and booking direct is best.
