Hotel Lago di Como

The room was a little older, but clean and spacious, and the location was great. Breakfast had a good selection of both hot and cold food.

We stayed here today and had a really good experience. Receptionists andreea ad Elisa were extremely nice and pleasant to talk to. Even though we arrived late, they were still upbeat and took time to look after our needs as well as they could. The service was excellent, and the hotel went beyond what we expected. I’d recommend it to anyone who appreciates good service and friendly people. Book this place!

The hotel and rooms were very clean, and the staff were brilliant. This is a typical hotel for the area, a little sparse and not comparable to four-star hotels in major cities. We visited in March, just before the season started, and the food was the one problem. Very little was made to order. It was reheated or cooked earlier and kept warm. On one night we were the only guests, so I understand a full menu may not have been practical. Asking us earlier in the day what we wanted for dinner would have worked better. There are very good lakeside cafes with views across the lake to snow-capped mountains. Colico has excellent train and public bus links, which made getting around easy. It’s also close to St Moritz and the red snow train. Bellagio, Varena, and Como were all within 30-60 minutes.

The location was the only real plus. We were stuck booking at the last minute, but I wish I’d looked harder before choosing this place. As a travel agent, I wouldn’t send my clients here. The beds were awful, service took ages, and the air conditioning didn’t work. Our safe was broken; staff said they needed batteries, but never had time to get and install them. A heavy light cover above the bedside table then fell and nearly hit my husband. Nobody apologized or did anything to improve the stay. They said they’d see about moving us to another room, but that never happened. The front desk staff seemed overworked, and we never saw the manager. What kind of customer service is that? I can see how the owners keep getting guests because of the location, but stay away.
