Safari Luxus Lodge - Meisters Hotel Irma

For a place as expensive as Merano, this is a real find and very good value. The hotel is run by a monastic order, so it has a large, beautiful garden, a library, a meditation room, and a generous breakfast, things you don’t often get at a 3-star place. There’s also a Catholic chapel inside with daily service. It’s about 15 minutes from the town center, and a bus stop is a seven-minute walk away, with buses to a few cable cars. The hotel provides a Merano guest pass for free public transport. Hot and cold drinks are available in the lounge around the clock, on an honor system: write down what you take and pay at checkout. It’s usually quiet and peaceful, but from a balcony room you can hear your neighbors, every breath and every noise. There’s no AC, which would be handy in the hot summer weather. We couldn’t sleep for a few nights because of the heat.

The views were beautiful, the rooms were great, and the food was good. We stayed two nights and were charmed by the Pension’s peaceful, gentle feel. We hadn’t known it was connected with the sisters, but that comes through in the serene atmosphere. We fully intend to return.

We spent our days hiking and sightseeing, then came back in the late afternoon to read in the garden before dinner. The breakfast and dinners were delicious and plentiful, and we’d strongly recommend half board if it’s available. My husband and I loved this pension and wished we could have stayed for a month. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and modern, with large windows that open onto the garden and mountains. The sisters and staff were warm, welcoming, and generous. A special place, and a memorable stay.

Those little details really make Pension Salvatorianerinnen feel special, and unlike anywhere else I’ve stayed, in the best way. I can’t think of anything negative to say. I’d recommend it and would definitely stay again.
