Borgo Antico Rooms

We stayed two nights in October, in room n.1. The location was perfect, the price was good, and everything, including the small bathroom, was clean and new. What bothered me was the window. It opened onto the corridor, where other guests walked past, so we heard the door and people moving around, and couldn't air out the room. There was air conditioning, but I prefer fresh air from outside.

The layout means there are quite a few steps and doors to manage: up to the big secure gate, another step onto the floor, then down into the room. There are long marble stairs to reach the rooms too, so this seems better suited to couples who are able-bodied. The step down into the bathroom has little sensor lights for nighttime, and I assume that level change was needed to fit the plumbing. Carlo was easy to reach and answered my million questions within minutes. The place is in a lovely part of Messina, among shops, cafes, and restaurants. It’s about a 10-minute walk to the ferry for mainland Italy, or to Messina maritima. Our room was huge and pristine, with a beautiful comfortable bed and a recently renovated, well-sized bathroom that had everything we needed. The shower pressure was spectacular, and the bathroom was extremely clean. There was a full-length mirror, a corner couch that turns into a single bed if you bring a young child, a small fridge, coffee machine, air conditioning, and water. Nice extras included slippers, biscuits, and intimate wash for the bidet. I loved the high ceiling, carefully painted to match the floor tiles, and the chandelier gave it an elegant touch. If we’d had more time, we would have stayed longer. Thank you, Carlo!

I came across this beautiful place by chance, and the hosts reminded me how kind people can be. We didn't speak the same language, but a warm welcome comes through anyway. The grace and generosity they showed us felt rare. Thank you all 💜🦄
