Hotel Astoria

We felt welcome right away, thanks to a friendly, helpful host. The hotel is central but quiet, with the beach only a short walk away, which made it a good place to unwind. Breakfast was basic but enough. We had a pleasant stay and would happily come back.

We stayed for a Saturday and Sunday weekend and had a lovely time. The staff were warm, polite, and welcoming. There was plenty to eat at both breakfast and lunch.

The beach was nice, though the sea gets rocky almost as soon as you go in. There also isn’t much nearby to visit, and you need to walk about a kilometer and a half to reach places with a few people around. There were four of us, but the room felt poorly set up: one wardrobe for two, two drawers for four, and a bunk bed whose top bunk bent when someone lay on it. It was uncomfortable, and the room was dusty rather than clean. The welcome at the hotel was excellent, but meals were a problem. On the first day at lunch there was a dead mosquito on the plate of cured meats; on the other days we found a hair in the pasta and in the orange juice.

The location is good, as was the parking arrangement with the lot nearby. Breakfast was also good, though my croissant was stale, and the bathroom was only fair. The rooms are old, and you can hear other guests through them, from doors opening and closing to a neighbor snoring or using the bathroom. Outside noise comes through too, including nearby rides, people on the avenue, and the truck delivering hotel supplies. At 7:00 in the morning, staff started cleaning, banging doors and carts and waking me up. The receptionist was cold and unhelpful. I hope things improve by the time I return in a few years. AFTER THE LADY'S RESPONSE: I apologize, it was 7:15... and then Emerito Liar tells a relative of his, not to be vulgar, since I was in the room and had to get up and open the door to show my displeasure about the noise!!!!
