Hotel Belvedere

The dining room was noisy, with barely audible air conditioning and lots of loud voices. The hotel's "patio" had so few seats that you had to move things around to sit, or else stand. I also found the place not very clean. People took food back to the kitchen, and it seemed possible it was being served to others again. Tables had no tablecloths or paper napkins. The rooms weren't soundproof, so every noise came through, especially dogs barking. Food was terrible. Breakfast was very limited, as was the appetizer and side-dish buffet, and if you arrived later, much of it was gone. Lunch and dinner offered two choices, though one evening option was soup without broth, and the food was barely passable. The August lunch wasn't even a fish meal. The second course after the first was poor, and the quality was no better. There were just a few extra appetizers and a truffle gelato dessert at the end. For a stay costing about what other hotels charge, there wasn't even an organized August aperitif, which most hotels had. In my opinion, avoid this place if you can.

The room was basic but clean. We had asked for two single beds and got them, though two extra bunk beds were also put in, taking up more space than we wanted. Breakfast the next morning was varied and plentiful. It's a typical Riviera Romagnola hotel in a great seafront spot. Getting there by car was tricky, mainly because a sporting event blocked access to the waterfront parking when we arrived. The road was marked as restricted with no through traffic, though the hotelier later said that restriction didn't apply to hotel guests. We had a positive stay overall.

The kitchen was the worst part. The appetizer buffet was practically gone within five minutes of opening, and nothing was replenished. After two days we raised the issue with the owner, who threatened to throw us out. In a whole week, our group of 46, families and children on full board, didn't get to enjoy a single Romagna dish. The staff were rude and unprofessional, and the rooms were small and not very clean. A truly awful experience. I wouldn't recommend it.

The hotel was very nice and in a convenient location. The owners made us feel welcome and were very kind.
