Miramare Luxury Guest House

They call it a 4-star “luxury sea view” suite, but the price is the only luxurious part. We paid a whopping €300 for one night in a basement apartment with a pool. The place was dirty, humid and noisy. We found three cockroaches near the pool and another on the bedsheet. The owner didn’t seem concerned and arrogantly said it wasn’t his problem, and that squashing them was enough to sleep peacefully. That same evening, the shower ran out of hot water. We were told they’d report it to a technician, then our calls and messages went unanswered. The owner excused this by saying he and his staff weren’t supposed to always respond to guests. We spoke to the owner directly in the morning when we checked out. It was embarrassing. He was rude and insisted he had no responsibility for the terrible stay, and that what we paid was very little for what we got. He couldn’t apologize to guests. A place to avoid absolutely.

The location is excellent, but everything else fell short. We stayed one night and reported the heating problem on December 31st. After two hours of calls, nothing was fixed. The person on the other end only sent messages promising someone would sort it out. A technician came that evening and could only say, “I don’t know what it is, I’m sorry.” After that, they were completely indifferent. We spent the night on the floor in the cold, in a room we’d paid a lot for because it was advertised as a “luxury guest house.” For us, hospitality means handling the difficult situations. A beautiful room or view can make any place look lovely, but it’s when something unexpected goes wrong that you see the spirit and professionalism of the people running it. That’s what can leave a lasting impression and make you want to return. Everything seemed perfect, but it wasn’t. This property didn’t manage its responsibilities as a host. I strongly discourage staying here.

We paid €280 for one night, and we’ll never return. The room was tiny, with barely enough space to move around. It was called a Luxury Suite, but there was nothing luxurious apart from the pool, which sat practically under the bed and made the room hot and humid. Forget there was a pool down there and you could fall in. The round bed’s sheets kept slipping off the edges, and they didn’t seem clean or recently changed. A clear glass panel in the door left us exposed to anyone walking by. A few towels in front of it were the only thing providing any privacy. Our arrival wasn’t any better. We expected someone to welcome us at reception, but everything was shut and nobody was there, so we had to call the owner. He rudely said we’d arrived too early. We waited half an hour in the sun outside, then a girl came and showed us in. I’d never have booked it if I’d known the room was in the basement, with its door opening straight onto the street. Breakfast was poor and terrible quality. It was served in the room, but the timing didn’t work: it arrived half an hour late. Leaving took ages too. We had to wait over half an hour with our bags ready for the girl who was supposed to check the room and collect our card. She said she’d come at 11:00 and, of course, was late again. To pay by POS we had to walk to another hotel.

We stayed after a long, fruitless argument, but the room we were moved to had no hot water. We had booked two nights and wanted to leave after the first, though the manager refused either to discount that awful night or charge us for leaving. He said he hadn't put the cockroaches there and that we were unlucky, then got aggressive and nearly fought with my partner. It started with a semi-basement room, its glass door opening straight onto the street, so we were told to put up an old screen against people passing by. The air conditioning was incredibly loud. There was a cockroach in the shower, and another floating in the cold pool. In the middle of the night, an enormous one crawled over our legs and woke us. Awful. Run away!
