B&B Le Scalette di Piazza

We felt more like guests in a home than hotel visitors, especially at breakfast, where four other couples were there enjoying Montalcino too. The cottage is clean, quirky, cozy and affordable, and getting there means climbing about 30 stairs from the town's main center. It's tucked into the historic center on steep marble steps in medieval Montalcino, with the castle, shops, wine bars and restaurants all within walking distance. Cristina, the host, was lovely, courteous and helpful. She's also an incredible pasta chef, and pointed us to local restaurants where we could get her handmade pasta. Definitely worth the climb.

The place is right in the city center, which was really convenient, and everything was clean. Parking is free and about a five-minute walk away. We arrived late, but the owner helped with self check-in and sorted out the parking situation when I contacted him on Whatsapp. Breakfast is served daily from 9-10. Two ladies make fresh cakes and ask what kind of coffee you’d like. They are the BEST, speak good English and can help with anything you need.

It’s a lovely, intimate place, with cozy rooms in a great location. The staff are helpful, and they provide a parking discount. Just note that reaching the rooms means going through a tight corridor in a building on the second floor.

The room was spacious and looked out over the square toward the countryside. Being right in the middle of town made it easy to get everywhere. Before carrying your bags over the hill, speak to the folks inside. They can give you a temporary pass to enter the ZTL restricted zone and unload. Already looking forward to my next Montalcino visit.
