Hotel al Brunello di Montalcino

They kept nearly €3000 of my deposit after my wedding was cancelled, and refused to return it. The customer service was awful, and I believe they take advantage of American tourists and lie about returning deposits. The business showed very poor ethics and accountability. Do NOT stay here.

The rooms were clean and the breakfast was decent, which is why I'm giving it two stars. Beyond that, this place felt strange and neglected, like a haunted urbex site that badly needs renovation. The hotel was completely empty apart from us, and nobody was at reception overnight. The reception lady was nice, but someone, probably the owners, seemed to sit smoking in the dining hall around the clock. They may also have lived in two rooms behind the kitchen, and the cigarette smell had spread through the whole hotel. The parking is supposedly behind the hotel, but it looked sketchy to us, with no cameras, fence, or other cars, so we left our car out front instead. In the morning the guy who'd been smoking made us coffee and put out an average buffet, mostly toast, cheese, and salami. It was okay, except the juice tasted like someone had squeezed a wet sock into it. Then he went outside and spent about five minutes walking around our car and staring at it.

The view here is great, and the place itself is nice. The draft beer was great too. The mattress was so soft that it gave me back pain, and I didn't think much of the breakfast. The staff don't speak English, and although free Wi-Fi is offered, the signal never reached our room.

We stopped in for a spritz and really liked the setting. The staff were very nice, and they make a lovely spritz. I'd come back.
