The first wine tasted quite good, which made the rest of the visit even more disappointing. We only came in for a tasting and didn’t stay at the hotel. The woman running it spent a long time talking about the wine before we could try any. When someone in our group asked for a small pour because wine affects her easily, the host insisted there was just one pour size and that sharing would spoil the experience. She then questioned her about her health and mocked her explanations. After the first pour, she told all of us we were tasting it wrong, without explaining what we’d done, then said we’d ruined it and couldn’t enjoy that wine. I left at that point. She came across as insulting, pompous, dismissive, and humorless. She may know wine, but she lacks people skills. Welcoming? No. Self-important? Yes. That sort of attitude surprised me in Italy.

Denise, thank you from the heart. Your help and advice made our time in your city much more fulfilling. The owners and staff were the highlight for us: honest, straightforward people who shared their knowledge so generously. They were professional and warm, and made us feel comfortable and safe during our stay in Montalcino. The hotel itself and its location were excellent too.

Watching the sunset from the balcony with a glass of Brunello and the Tuscan countryside in view was a moment to remember. The property and its setting were outstanding, and our host was wonderful. Everything exceeded what we’d hoped for. Highly recommend.

The rooms aren’t much, but the staff are lovely. They went out of their way to help me with something unrelated, and sent us great recommendations too. The shop is superb, and their own Brunello is a must-try.
