Hotel Astoria

The only thing we liked was the location. The free parking across the road is just public parking anyone can use. Our check-in was already 25 minutes late, and one room was still dirty. They said it would be cleaned right away, then 15 minutes later told us it was done. It was hard to believe one person could disinfect the bathroom, change the sheets and couch-blanket-like cover, vacuum, and handle everything else that quickly. The rooms were dated, with spiderwebs, broken lamps and furniture, loose outlets, cracked flooring, a leaking toilet that left a puddle, and a bad old smell throughout the hotel. The terrace behind the rooms was filthy, with old feces, and used cigarettes in the ashtray and on the ground. The hallway by the dining hall, spa, and pool wasn't ventilated, and the air was humid enough to fog the windows. At breakfast, some silverware was dirty and rusty. The eggs and bacon were literally fridge-cold even though they were on a warmer. Fresh eggs and bacon were available, but at an overpriced extra charge. We both ended up skipping breakfast, and the coffee from the outdated machine wasn't drinkable. The hotel seemed understaffed, with no bartender on New Year's Eve, so we asked the front desk staff for drinks and he served them. Staff were somewhat nice when we raised the problems, but kept saying this was the hotel's style. I don't see how being unsanitary counts as a style. I would not recommend this hotel.

The room was beautiful, but the breakfast staff were rude and racist toward us and our group throughout all three days. They seemed to favor Western Europeans and showed little hospitality to people outside that group. It was disappointing and ruined the experience.

We've come back in summer for four years running, and we'll definitely visit again. It's a romantic, lovely hotel with really friendly staff. The outdoor pool gets sun all day and is the best place to relax. The food is very good, and breakfast is lovely, especially outdoors.

The food was great, and the service was the best we've had at hotels in Italy. The area is beautiful, and the hotel has what I believe is called a mineral bath. Our room was really spacious, with one full bathroom and another room with just a toilet. Bravo Bellavista.
