Villa Montecastello

The owner’s reply has been astonishing: he keeps blaming us for their mistakes, just as the concierge and his mother did, and apparently they didn’t tell him the truth. A daytime temperature of 20 degrees is fine, but the night was around 10, as he confirmed himself. Would he spend a night in a room at 10 degrees? The concierge tried adjusting the shower knob and said it would work, but I showed her that after running the water for 15 minutes it was still not hot. She touched it herself and could feel that. We had no one to contact all night or in the morning, and then the concierge and his mother acted as if we should thank them for breakfast instead of apologizing and taking responsibility. The shower still had no hot water in the morning. Would he pay for a cold room with no hot water and nobody to contact? I don’t think even a single euro was due. I emailed the address on the website, info@montecastelli.com, but I’m not surprised there was no reply when the emergency number listed in the room also went unanswered. The green views couldn’t make up for a night in a room with no heating and no hot water in the shower, with a baby, when it was 6-10°C outside. There was nobody to reach: neither the “emergency” number in the room nor the Google number answered. In the morning, they acted as if it was fine and offered a “free coffee.” I dislike leaving bad reviews, so I tried emailing the owner. He wasn’t there and didn’t seem to care when staff updated him in the morning. After several unanswered emails, I’m writing here in the hope he’ll see it. The night was horrible, and the staff’s treatment in the morning was even worse.

Jens and his staff looked after what we needed while leaving us to enjoy a quiet break. The scenery was gorgeous and the food fantastic.

Jens was welcoming and an amazing chef, and it was clear Montecastello is a labor of love for him. Adding the bistecca meal and cooking class was a great decision. They became our favorite meals in all of Italy. We were the only guests at the villa then, so we also really appreciated the room upgrade. We dream of coming back. My fiance and I had just wrapped up our engagement trip to Italy with a stay at Villa Montecastello, a beautiful way to end it. My fiance had researched Tuscan agroturismos and chose Montecastello for its beauty and commitment to good food. Since neither of us had tried anything like this before, we wondered if it might disappoint, but our expectations were surpassed. Thank you again, Jens!

Jens and Barbara made our elopement celebration feel like a dream, and we can’t wait to return. From fresh flowers and cozy, clean decor to remarkable olive oil, food, and wines, every part of Villa Montecastello was wonderful. We’re grateful to Jens and Barbara for such a special, picture-perfect wedding experience.
