Hotel Rizzi

Fantastic.

The lady who checked us in was lively and friendly, and even handled it with a simple notepad. Breakfast had the feel of the “worst bar in Caracas.” The Rizzi Hotel is for anyone who enjoys a retro, one-off adventure, has a soft spot for the old lira, and isn’t too fussy, since the carpet may take care of that. There’s carpeting, spring mattresses, 1970s bathroom fittings, and a shower set into the floor. Photos of notable people hint at a grand past, while the elevator raises questions about whether it meets code and the electrical outlets definitely don’t. It really does feel like stepping into the past, or stumbling into an emergency without knowing what comes next. Five stars for daring to call itself a hotel 😁

The hosts were welcoming even though we arrived late, and they found a garage for our motorcycles. A decent place to stay, and a great spot.

Greta, our waitress, was so sweet, courteous, and kind. The staff were all incredibly nice and always around when needed, and I felt at home straight away. I stayed five nights in a double room at the single-room price. The food was delicious, especially the vegetarian dish and Motociclista pizza. I’d absolutely recommend it!
