Glamping Alcantara

Tiziana welcomed us and was friendly and really helpful. The tent and the whole property were clean. A few minor drawbacks: there was no phone, no night reception, and the bar shut after 5:00 PM.

Charming, comfortable, and clean. Mrs. Marzena was always smiling, helpful, highly professional, and punctual. A big thank you to her.

The tents are spacious, with plenty of storage, and the air conditioning is welcome in summer. We were regularly asked if we wanted fresh sheets or towels, and the staff are very friendly, though they speak little or no English, so Google Translate came in handy. The kitchen has very little equipment, but we managed. There are only two loungers for a tent that sleeps five, so spending the evening at the picnic table gets old. Breakfast was fine, though they ran out of eggs for a few days. Noise is the big problem if you want a quiet glamping stay. The tents are close to a busy road, and we heard the gorge show twice every evening, at 7:30 PM and 10:00 PM, on nine days of our stay. There was also a performance on two evenings. A railway line and platform are currently being built next to the site. Work at the glamping area and gorge, including leaf blowers and brushcutters, began as early as 7:00 AM, so sleeping in wasn't possible. There was no free Wi-Fi, and we didn't get the promised view of Mount Etna. The pool is nothing special, and I'd guess it's about 110 cm deep. People from outside use it during the day, and it can get crowded. The spray park is fun for younger kids. The site is a handy base for Taormina, Messina, Catania, or Mount Etna, and I highly recommend a quad bike tour through the valley. For the gorge, I'd skip the €9-per-person lift and take the stairs for €2 each.

There’s a lot to like about the tents: they’re TOP, roomy and comfortable, with a double bedroom and another room with three beds. The patio has a table, benches, and armchairs, and the Spray Park next door is included and fun for kids and adults. The property is very nice, but management is poorly organized. We arrived at 8:15 PM, after giving them that time both when booking and on the morning we arrived, yet waited 15 minutes for the security guard to open the gate. The next morning nobody explained where breakfast was or how to check in. Staff couldn’t help, except for the very kind young woman at the bar counter. We had no gate keys for over 12 hours and were locked inside. Staff are friendly but not equipped to do the job properly. Maybe arriving before 6:00 PM would mean an immediate check-in and getting the information you need. Light sleepers should look elsewhere: the tents are just steps from a busy road, even at night. Breakfast is at Bar delle Gole, which is not very close and has a limited selection, though the food is good.
