B&B Napoli La Perla

The area felt rough and run-down, so it worked best as a place to stay for airport transfers. Inside was clean, and coffee, snacks, juice and water were included. There was air conditioning too. The receptionist handled my late arrival well and communicated clearly in excellent English.

We arrived to find the B&B inside an old apartment building, up on the seventh floor. The elevator was small and slow, and apparently broke often, so we worried we might have to carry everything upstairs or get stuck in it. The neighborhood was dirty and unattractive, and after the host treated us rudely, we didn’t feel safe staying there. The owner didn’t speak English and made little effort to communicate in Italian, even though I’m at an intermediate level. Parking was nearby, but we had to hand over the car keys and pay at the entrance. The quoted price was wrong too: it was €20.00 per day. We decided to find somewhere else.

Finding the place was tricky, since the little sign was hard to spot, and the neighborhood felt a bit dodgy. Once inside, though, the B&B was clean and nice, and breakfast was good. He let us leave our bags after checkout, which was helpful. The seventh-floor elevator takes a 10 cent coin each time you use it. It was a good enough place to stay.

The bed was super comfortable, which is the only reason I gave it three stars. The walls were paper-thin and I couldn’t sleep. The area seemed a little rough, and the so-called continental breakfast was just a few buns and jam.
