Buono Hotel

I walked there late at night and never felt unsafe. The room was clean, nice, and quiet overnight. It's about an 18-minute walk from the train station. Don't count on Naples buses or trams running on time. I walked everywhere.

The room and bathroom were decent in size, but both felt old and overdue for renovation. It was also hard to communicate at reception because the staff didn’t speak or understand English well. Outside, the neighborhood felt dodgy at every hour. The main street right by the hotel had piles of rubbish, fresh mess on the pavement, and people hanging around who looked shady. About 500 meters to the south-west there’s a correctional facility that isn’t even shown on maps, maybe to avoid making the area’s poor reputation worse. When I checked out, I asked reception to call a taxi. They sent someone they knew instead, with no taxi license, meter, app, or taxi sign on the car. I was charged 35 € for a 3-4 km ride. It felt like a definite scam, and I suspect the hotel knew about it and was involved.

Breakfast came with plenty of cakes and a good choice of coffee. There’s also parking underground for 10 per day, which is a decent rate. The hotel is close to tram and bus stops, and handy for the highway, though you can hear the traffic if you leave the windows open. Good value for what you pay.

The rooms were very clean, and breakfast was included, which was a nice bonus. Staff were cordial and helped us find our way around the city. We had a great stay, and it’s reasonably close to lots of popular places.
