Hotel Real Orto Botanico

The location is the one real plus. It’s handy for the historic district, and Porta Nolana or the central station are about a 20-minute walk. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby, some worth visiting. Via Foria itself felt fairly safe, but the side streets looked rough, and I wouldn’t walk far along them alone at night. You have to use those streets to get to the train stations, so plan around that. We got there a few hours early, and the desk found us a room within 30 minutes, which was a pleasant surprise. Room 410 was relatively quiet because it faced away from the street, and it was passably clean. But it was worn down: the inside door lock knob was loose and kept falling off, and the top hinge had broken apart. There was also a mosquito and some woodlice. The charging port was very slow, and the wifi was unreliable at times. I can’t recommend this place. It presents itself as a four-star hotel, but basic things you’d expect, like room service or a kettle, are missing. It says it has a restaurant, but beyond breakfast there’s just a small bar/bistro with four kinds of very overpriced sandwiches and drinks. They don’t mention when booking that outside food and drinks aren’t allowed, which is a huge hassle, especially since there’s no proper restaurant. The minibar fridge seems pointless under that rule. I didn’t feel comfortable drinking the tap water, and the two free bottles weren’t enough for three days, so we had to sneak supermarket water past reception. We’d already packed food and drinks because nobody had told us about the rule. I don’t know how they expect to enforce it. I’d read reviews praising the service, but beyond that early check-in, we didn’t get good service. I had to ask more than once for someone to call a taxi to the airport. At one point the receptionist offered to drive us there in his own car for the same price as a taxi. ??? He also kept watching football while working. It all came across as unprofessional and made the place feel untrustworthy.

Absolutely disgusting. The whole hotel is literally falling apart and looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in a decade. The bed was badly worn and left my back in terrible pain. There were stains on it and long hairs, and I don’t have long hair.

Our room, 310, was very clean, and the bathroom spotless. I’m surprised by the bad reviews. We travel all over the world and found this hotel perfectly fine. It’s 3.3 km from the airport, about seven minutes by car. Glad I’m not in the hotel business dealing with all those complainers!

We used this nice old hotel as a base for seeing Naples and the attractions around it. The staff were friendly and helpful. It’s about a 25-minute walk from the train station and a 10-minute drive to the airport. The rooms are basic, with no tea or coffee facilities, and because it’s on a busy road you’ll hear horns and sirens late into the night.
