The noise made it hard to sleep, especially on our first night when we had to ask the person in charge to stop shouting while talking to a friend. You could hear everything, and the main entrance was often left open because it wouldn’t shut properly from outside. Finding the place was difficult too, since we hadn’t been sent useful directions beforehand. We waited 15 minutes for anyone to come and help us. The double room was awful: there were little clear plastic bags on the floor that looked as if they’d been used for drugs, and the mattress sagged in the middle so badly we kept rolling toward the sides. The bathrooms were dirty and had no toilet seat, and hot water ran out when several people showered one after another. The kitchen was dirty as well. They call this a 3-star hotel, apparently to charge a higher tourist tax, but I don’t think it deserves even half a star. There’s such a lack of care and investment. It’s a shame places like this keep operating because someone will eventually pay. I can’t recommend it.

Having my things dumped in the hallway was the worst part of staying at Alexandra Hostel. I came to Naples as a student and stayed there while looking for a room. After an initial 42 nights, I booked January 29, 30, and 31 so I could move on February 1. I understood that paying for the 31st meant I could sleep that night and check out the next morning, as is standard accommodation practice. Management said I had to leave on the night of the 31st, removed my belongings, and made me pay for an “extra” night to sleep until the morning of February 1. So I paid for four nights but got only three nights of accommodation. They wouldn’t listen when I explained the dates or refund me. The stress ruined the stay. Communication was terrible, the billing felt dishonest, and there was no respect for the booking. Check your dates carefully, since they may try to charge twice for the same night. I wouldn’t recommend this hostel.

After staying at Alexandra Hostel for 42 nights as a student, I ran into a serious problem with the final dates I’d booked. My payment covered January 29, 30, and 31, which I expected to include the night of the 31st and checkout on February 1. Management instead said I had to leave that evening, took my belongings out of the room, and charged me for an “extra” night so I could sleep and leave the next morning. I ended up paying for four nights but received only three nights of accommodation. The communication was unprofessional and the billing didn’t match normal hospitality practice. Future guests should confirm their checkout dates in writing to avoid the same issue.

The one real convenience was the train station, just a six-minute walk away. Inside, though, the security was appalling: bedroom doors didn’t lock, and there wasn’t a reliably locked door between us and the street. Once, when the outer door was locked, we had to wait outside until another boarder reached the receptionist and got them to let us in. We arrived at 2pm, even though check-in started at 1pm, and waited half an hour for someone to show up. Then the receptionist put us in an eight-bed room despite our booking for six. The door didn’t lock, and there were bed bugs. The bathroom was acceptable, but water sat all over the floor for hours before anyone dealt with it. The kitchen was cramped and shabby. The fridge door was nearly coming off its hinges, and everything we put inside was frozen the next day. There were only two chairs, and the receptionist was usually using one while watching the TV very loudly.

The staff were quite nice, and the location is great, but that couldn’t make up for the stay. The rooms were freezing, there was no hot water, and the whole room had just one power outlet, which made charging a phone difficult. The kitchen dishes were dirty enough that I was afraid to touch anything. This was the worst hostel I’ve stayed in. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. I’d rather spend the whole night in a bar than stay there.
