Hotel Diamond

The location worked well for me, with a supermarket, laundromat, bus stop, and train station nearby. The center is a bit of a distance away, but that was fine. I stayed three nights in a recently renovated deluxe double on the third floor. It was clean, as were the lobby and breakfast room, and the bed, soft linen, fluffy towels, pillow, and roomy shower were all comfortable. The air conditioning worked well, and there was a hair dryer, soap dispensers by the sink and in the shower, a glass-front mini fridge with a complimentary bottle of water on arrival, and a USB charger and socket close to the bed. Shutters and blackout curtains kept the room dark. Breakfast was included and plentiful, with pancakes, boiled eggs, ham, cheese, and other things; staff made coffee when asked. The staff were polite, helpful, and spoke English. Check-in was confusing because I was asked to pay for the room despite having prepaid through booking.com. I had a printed receipt, luckily. I also only heard about the €3.50 nightly city tax at checkout, though other hotels had told me at check-in. On my checkout morning I went for breakfast at 7:30 and found no pancakes, ham, or cheese on the table. A staff member said they were finished, then brought them out a few minutes later. A little odd. Apart from those small issues, I had a good stay.

The room looked nice, but I won't be coming back or recommending this hotel. Most staff couldn't speak English, apart from one woman, and the receptionist couldn't help us when we raised a serious issue because of the language barrier. We had to wait until the next day to try to resolve it. My friend's purse had been left in the wardrobe, with €100 hidden under some items. When we got back from the city around midday, the contents had been changed and the money was missing. This happened even though we had put up the "do not disturb" sign. It was a shocking and deeply disappointing experience.

The room was clean, but we only stayed around 6-7 hours while waiting for a ferry. Outside, the place looked very run down, with a pile of rubbish, and the area didn't feel safe. We got in and out as quickly as we could. It definitely wasn't good value for money.

I wouldn't stay here again. The room was spacious, but very dirty, with mold on the walls, and it looked nothing like the photos. The staff were extremely rude. At checkout, the morning receptionist demanded extra fees. I showed him my booking reservation, which said I had already paid everything through booking, but he rudely said he didn't care and that I should speak to booking. That was the customer service I got. If I could give the hotel a negative star, I would.
