Hotel Luna Rossa

The photos on Booking.com and elsewhere show one or two renovated rooms, but ours was terrible. It felt like nobody had checked, cleaned or maintained it in ten years. The shower was moldy, one of the side doors on the broken shower enclosure was missing, and the room was dusty and felt dirty. As other reviews mention, there is no fridge. Avoid it.

The hotel is only a four-minute walk from the central station, and the rooms are spacious. Staff weren't unpleasant, and we had no issues with them. The hotel itself is pretty basic, but cheaper than most, so it feels like you get what you pay for. There are plenty of problems, though. No fridge, a very small and poor TV, ants all over the floors, and noise outside. The toilets don't have seats, which is far from ideal if you're travelling with women or need to use the toilet for a bowel movement. The rooms also smell strongly of sewage all the time, possibly because the sinks have no plugs. You get used to it, but it's unpleasant. Sometimes they ask for your room key when you leave in the morning, which felt sketchy, so we kept our things locked in our luggage in the room. The streets around the main square are dingy and dirty and didn't feel very safe. On a walk along the main road, we heard a woman scream and saw a homeless man's body being thrown onto a pile of black bags while people walked by. The area isn't the best.

The room was very basic, though the sheets looked clean. By US standards, I'd rate this place a one. The walls are paper-thin, so you hear the hallway, other rooms and city noise. Crying babies, fighting kids and arguing couples were all part of what we heard. The bathroom was so cramped that I had to open the tiny shower door just to sit on the toilet, and there was mold in the shower. I wore beach shoes in there. I prepaid with a nonrefundable booking, but I'm leaving early. Never again.

The room is large and clean, and the bathroom looks nice, but I feel disappointed after just arriving this afternoon. There's no fridge, and they couldn't provide an electric kettle or a knife when we asked. We got a TV remote, but not one for the air conditioning. We like to have tea or coffee after dinner, and can't do that here.
