Re Diego Hotel

The room was large and great, and the staff provided good service, including bringing breakfast to our room. It's a short walk from the train station, near the busy tourist areas, and a taxi to the airport isn't too bad. Just watch yourself on the streets at night, since Naples has a recent history of feeling sketchy after dark.

This was the best hotel of our trip around Italy. It wasn't perfect, but it was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the room had been newly renovated. Breakfast was nice, and having it brought to us for free was amazing. The station is close by, though the neighborhood is sketchy, which isn't the hotel's fault.

The bed was uncomfortable, breakfast was very low quality even though it was delivered to the room, and the bathroom layout was odd. The room I was given also didn't appear in the Booking.com photos at all. Still, the worst part for me was how the manager handled the situation. When I politely asked about switching to a room that looked like the pictures, she got defensive and said that room wasn't available, adding that it was even worse than mine. Later, she showed it to me anyway, after I'd already booked somewhere else. When I said the new room was clearly better, she became even more hostile and measured the rooms to make some irrelevant point about their size. I'd booked two separate stays through Booking.com, one when I arrived in Naples and another after coming back from the Amalfi Coast. I asked to cancel the later booking, but the manager refused and said, "the money is mine," and that I could stay or leave while she kept the payment. Booking.com told me the reservation couldn't be canceled under its third-party booking policy. This wasn't really about money for me. I wanted basic respect and honesty. If she'd been upfront from the start, I would have stayed and might have had a better experience. Instead, her erratic behavior and lack of professionalism made it impossible to enjoy the stay. The property is right beside the train station, which is convenient, but the area is noisy and often unpleasant because of the smell of urine. With the misleading photos, poor amenities, and management experience, I'd advise future guests to reconsider booking here.

The breakfast was decent, but finding the place was difficult enough that I had to ask a local shop owner for help. The Wi-Fi didn't work at all, and the air conditioning was very poor. Some people may feel quite uncomfortable or unsafe staying here, as it's in the heart of Naples, but that isn't the reason for my low rating.
