Hotel Vergilius Billia

I’m on day two of four and enjoying my stay so far. The room is simple, but it’s clean, comfortable and quiet, with a large bathroom and a very comfortable bed. I slept well from the first night. The lobby and breakfast room/restaurant look very nice, and all the staff have been friendly and helpful. It was easy to find, and I’d choose this hotel again when I’m back in Napoli.

Getting around was easy, with a metro station and bus stops right by the hotel. Everyone was good with customer service, and Sapna deserves a special mention for her great energy and exceptional service. The beds were decent and breakfast was good. The 10am checkout seemed outrageous, especially with check-in not until 3pm, though it didn’t affect me since I had to leave early. I arrived before check-in and they had my room ready by 12pm. I also hadn’t encountered paid luggage storage before, despite traveling 12 times this year and never having paid for it.

The room wasn’t ready when we arrived, and we ended up waiting and arguing until 3:40 PM to check in, even though the stated check-in time was earlier. Staff argued instead of apologizing. There was no organization, no accountability, and no manager available to speak with. They were rude, unprofessional, and seemed completely lost when it came to basic customer service. Worst hotel stay I’ve had. Inside the room were mouldy bathroom walls, a broken TV remote, torn furniture, marks all over the walls, curtains that let in too much light, no kettle, and no iron. The air conditioning was on but barely cooled anything. Luggage storage came with a compulsory €5 charge for the first 5 hours, then €1 per hour. The reception area is tiny, like a hostel, with one sofa. We couldn’t use the reception toilet without a room key while we were waiting, and when we finally saw it, it wasn’t clean. The location felt poor and unsafe, with rubbish bins right by the entrance and the city centre far away, though there is a metro nearby. This doesn’t meet even one-star standards, let alone what they claim. I’ve complained to Booking.com and am waiting for compensation. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

A lovely breakfast buffet, and a handy hotel for a weekend or short stay. It’s not far from the airport or Nappoli central gare. This was my second stay, and I’ll definitely come back again.
