Vesuvius Luxury Suites

The location is good, with many historic streets, shops, and buildings easy to reach during the day. At night it’s less comfortable, since the streets are quiet and walking from the metro terminal isn’t very pleasant. The host spoke only Italian, which made communication difficult. There’s no elevator, and we had to climb at least five floors to reach the hotel. Our bags were brought up using a construction-style hoist. The room was decent but basic, with nothing special. The hotel had no card machine for paying the tourist taxes, which made payment harder. Breakfast was at a café a few meters away. There weren’t many choices, but it was good.

The breakfast bar was lovely, and the croissants were excellent. The room itself was very nice, but it smelled moldy, like a cave. Mold covered the sides of the shower, there was debris under the covers, and the hot water came out so slowly that a shower took an hour. The TV remote downstairs was sticky and had no battery, and the upstairs room had no remote at all. We told the owner, and she sorted that out right away. The air conditioning was in the room, but the upper floor was stiflingly hot while downstairs it was freezing. The building is on the sixth floor and has no elevator, and that should be made clear right away. My aunt had heart surgery and struggled with the rickety, crumbling stairs, some without handrails. The stairs were in disarray, with some actually broken, and the walls were falling apart. Old reviews from 2024 said work was underway to install an elevator, but it’s 2026 and there still isn’t one. They said there was a freight lift, just a metal basket on a rope with barely enough room for a few backpacks. I should have read the reviews before booking. Seeing those unsafe stairs and all the repairs needed, I wanted to ask for a refund, but we would have had trouble finding somewhere else that evening. We only realized after arriving how poorly the lack of an elevator was explained in the listing.

The location is excellent, but I won’t come back. There are 150 steps, no elevator, and the crumbling stairs have no lights at night. I had to buy a flashlight so I wouldn’t fall. Breakfast was awful: you’re stuck with coffee or cappuccino and a croissant that’s been stale for two days. We stayed one night fewer than the three we paid for, and they still charged us 4 euros for a pastry that wasn’t included in breakfast. Customer service isn’t their strong point.

It’s quiet, and the photos don’t show how spacious it really is. San Gennaro is right there, and you’re in the heart of the city in five minutes. The whole staff was helpful and professional. Fabulous.
