The woman who came to clean the shower was lovely and apologized a lot. Marco, the manager or owner, gave us 20 euros off the bill without us asking, but we still couldn’t wait to leave. We’re on a month-long road trip around Italy, and this was the worst attitude and dirtiest bathroom we’d come across. Plenty of places we stayed were cheaper than his 90 euros and were spotless and well looked after. This one was neither, and the attitude made it worse. We checked in late and went straight out, so I didn’t notice the details at first. When we got back after dinner and showered, it was maybe 1 a.m. and I saw orangish slime all around the shower tray base, the door, and the lower sides. It was too late to bother anyone, so I told Marco in the morning. He seemed really resentful that we’d asked for it to be cleaned, and was grumpy and curt, especially since he knew we had photos to show him instead of making him come upstairs to see it. The property feels dated and poorly maintained, with a general sloppy feel. The dining room smelled stale, and not one window was open to let in air. I wanted to take my breakfast plate outside and sit in the morning sun, but he rudely refused. You could see he was mad. Basic is fine, but slovenly isn’t, and rudeness is a definite no.

The owner was kind and helpful, even preparing a generous breakfast with homemade pastries although we had to leave early. He also gave us dinner suggestions. We stayed one night as a stop on our trip, and found the location quiet and convenient, with a clean, well-equipped room. Highly recommended.

We’ll definitely come back. Parking was included, and the location is handy for beautiful natural areas like Marmore Falls and Nera Gorges, while Rome is about an hour’s drive away. Our double room was simple, clean, and well kept. Even in hot weather, the air conditioning wasn’t always needed because it cooled down in the evenings, and opening the windows brought in a nice breeze. The host is very friendly and, as a local, suggested good places to visit. He’s also a great cook. We had homemade food from pies and cakes at breakfast to pasta, local guinea fowl, and different side dishes at lunch and dinner. When we went hiking nearby, they even made us a packed lunch once. Thanks, Marco!

The homemade breakfast deserves a special mention, and there are lovely green open areas for people traveling with dogs. The owner was kind and helpful, recommending a great place for dinner. We chose Copriterra farmhouse for a one-night stop in Narni while breaking up our drive back from Calabria. The rooms were simple, clean, and well cared for. It’s quiet and convenient for travelers, and for visiting the city, which is definitely worth seeing. We’ll return for longer next time.

I understand we may have missed the room booking details in our hurry and trusted the general description instead, which could have been misleading. I also understand that we called at 10:30 p.m. on a Saturday. It was an emergency, though, and we were calling to check whether someone would be there for us at midnight. I’ve never been treated this way by tourist accommodation. A simple “No, sorry, sir” or “We’ll make sure to welcome you” would have been enough. This was Saturday, June 6, around 10 p.m. After a seven-hour flight from Copenhagen, I landed late in Rome. My partner had come from Ancona, and after a quick stop together we realized we couldn’t manage an overnight drive, so we looked for somewhere to stay. Around upper Sabina, between Narni and Terni in Lazio and Umbria, a couple of hotels and agritourisms seemed unhappy with our request to check in between midnight and 12:30, despite prices starting at €70. In five years abroad and several intercontinental trips, I’d never had a conversation like this. At 10:30 p.m. we booked on Booking.com and called the agritourism to confirm. We were told check-in was possible until midnight. I sent a screenshot of the Booking.com general description, which said “24/7 reception service.” Then the owner started sending an awful stream of messages. The photos show them.
