Le Stanze del Giglio

We ended up eating here every night. The Manfricoli alla Narnese were delicious, and the wine list was fantastic. The young team running the place were friendly and enthusiastic, and ready to help with every request. We stayed in Mess Filippo, right beside reception and the stairs. Down two steps, it opened into a little castle, with very high walls, a bed and kitchen downstairs, and another bed and bathroom on the mezzanine. There's a small terrace with a few tables outside, and the rooms are inside. The property is in a one-of-a-kind historic building in central Narni. You enter from a cobbled alley, then climb an indoor staircase to reception, though you can also go through the bar on the main street, where someone is always around. Truly a dream!

The apartment was quiet, even with the weekend nightlife and its central historic-center location. It was spacious and well kept, with a kitchen, an entrance and living room, and two bedrooms in the one we stayed in. Breakfast was included in the price, and we were satisfied with our stay. One suggestion: use the side entrance, which opens onto an outdoor courtyard and stairs to the apartments. A roof there would help keep guests dry in the rain. The bar staff were kind and courteous, but it might work better to have someone assigned to welcome guests and serve breakfast in a separate area rather than in the bar. The bar is also part of the property, and seems to be the recommended way in.

There was a lot to like inside, including a clean, spacious room with a sink, fridge, and big table, plus a nice bathroom. Breakfast at the bar was fine, with pasta and cappuccino. The downside was the noise: you could hear the outside air conditioners, even with the window just slightly open to avoid using the AC at night. It got especially noisy when there was some wind.

The restaurant was very good and reasonably priced, and the location and room or apartment were good too. But there's plenty that needs improving. There wasn't even a bottle of water in the room, and three bed slats were broken in the middle, making for an almost sleepless night. I'd requested yogurt for breakfast, but after asking again they brought three, all expired, and had no more. I also asked for gluten-free products and got nothing.
