B&b il Baglio

The property is welcoming and in a good central spot, so it’s easy to explore the village on foot. But some things didn’t match the website description. We were supposed to have a balcony overlooking a garden, yet there was neither a balcony nor a garden. The toilet bowl was empty, so we couldn’t flush for the whole stay, which was only one night, thankfully. The power went out several times in the middle of the night, and we guests had to reconnect it ourselves. When we arrived, we were shown around but weren’t given the Wi-Fi details or any check-out instructions. We also had to leave our car on the street, in a space far from the property.

Giuseppe, the young man running the B&B, was happy to answer questions and clearly puts a lot of passion into it. Nicotera still feels authentic, with a real village atmosphere and welcoming local people. The B&B is in the historic center, convenient for nearby sights and activities, and parking is available close by. Guests can use the large rustic living room at the entrance and the kitchen with a refrigerator. The rooms are clean and have everything needed.

We had a great time at Zurro, one of the two bars where breakfast is served. We’d found it earlier when we went back for a drink and to enjoy the evening, and the owner there was young and friendly. The location was excellent, right by Castello Ruffo and very central, just steps from the restricted traffic zone, which we saw is popular with young people in the evening. My husband and I came for one night with two other couples. Giuseppe greeted us. He was polite and friendly, and made himself available straight away. The rooms were comfortable, clean, new, and spacious enough to feel like home. You can choose between two bars for breakfast. I highly recommend them if you’re in the area.
