Camelia Rooms Venice Guesthouse

We couldn't get anyone at reception to hear our complaints during the four days we were there. A construction worker handled our check-in, and construction in the lobby woke us every morning at 7am. The fire alarm also went off every afternoon, apparently by mistake. The room was nothing like the website photos, and was cramped with furniture we didn't need. The shower had no shower head, only a pipe, and was positioned over the toilet, leaving us to wash between the toilet and bidet. The place was very dirty, and despite the policy of changing towels every two days, ours were never replaced during our stay. Don't waste your money here, we had a bad time.

In my three days at Camelia Rooms, I saw a staff member only once. The shared kitchen was left in a mess and smelled unpleasant from the food, and there seemed to be no supervision, with everything wide open. The place felt dirty and unsafe. Refugees were staying at the hotel, and I was concerned about the lack of security. I strongly recommend keeping your belongings with you. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

The front desk staff were nice, and the hotel's location was handy for public transport. That was about all I liked. There was no soundproofing, so I could hear the neighboring room through the connecting door as well as noise in the hall. With doors slamming and people shouting on the phone, I ended up sleeping in noise-canceling headphones. I regret staying as long as I did and will look elsewhere next time I visit Venice. I was there for a film festival and kept a different schedule, out from the afternoon until late at night, so housekeeping couldn't clean while I was away. After the first night I found hundreds of ants crawling across the bathroom floor. The front desk said they'd handle it. By the time I returned, the ants were dead, but housekeeping had left them there. I also went four days without fresh towels, despite the policy of providing them every other day. When I asked for one at reception, they wanted 5€. With the lack of comfort and cleanliness, I can't recommend this hotel even if it's cheap.

The room felt a little dated, but it was clean, and the front desk was friendly. The location is handy, just 2-3 minutes from the bus station, making it easy to get to the island.
