The price was a pleasant surprise after such a good stay. Castello D’Alcontres made a great base for our van trips to the temples and amphitheaters of Taormina, Siracusa and Ortigia, plus Isola Bella, Savona, Etna and the coast. Our crew was amazed by the service and would recommend it to anyone. There were eight of us, American and British sailors, staying a few days in Nizza before a week crewing on a catamaran in September. We relied on our skipper, whose family is local, to find us somewhere. This place was a real find, close to the beach, with a beautiful architectural restoration of a castle. The rooms looked gorgeous, and the air conditioning and plumbing worked well. Each room’s design made clever use of the castle’s shape. The courtyard was a nice place to get away from the street. Breakfast together was a highlight. There were American-style eggs and bacon, Sicilian brioches, and gluten-free ones for a couple of our group. The GF brioches were just as good as the regular kind. Gianfranco was a warm-hearted host and spoke some English. He brought us “granite”, a fruit or nut flavored sorbet topped with as much thick cream as we wanted. Nicolette, his partner, kept checking whether we wanted espresso or cappuccino. Our chambermaid deserves five stars too. She kept the rooms in great shape and was very gracious when one of our group was seriously ill for the first three days. It was a far better experience than we expected, and a real bargain.

The sea breeze coming through the open balcony door in the breakfast room made mornings especially lovely. Breakfast itself was fabulous, with delicious food cooked to order to suit our group, and the proprietors were kind and friendly. They even brought me gluten-free brioche every day without my needing to ask, since I avoid gluten. I stayed several nights with friends in September 2025 and had an incredible time at Castello D’Alcontres. Our room was spacious and very clean, with a large en suite bathroom, a great shower, and plenty of space to move around. I highly recommend it!

We used Nizza as a hub for our daily outings, and its beautiful beaches were an added bonus. The Castello proprietors were awesome with our party of nine, making eggs and bacon each morning, then serving homemade Sicilian granita, espresso and brioche. Seeing the mountains and sea in the morning put us all in the mood to explore the islands. We’ll definitely come back.

The beach is just a block away, and there’s a nearby bakery with fresh cornettas late in the evening and again in the morning. We stayed here with friends in early September and couldn’t have enjoyed ourselves more. The hosts made us feel welcome, cooked breakfast and checked that we had what we needed. Our rooms and suites were comfortable and had everything for our weeklong stay. The terrace was a lovely extra, sunny in the morning and shaded during the hottest part of the day. I’m already looking forward to coming back next year.

Nizza felt safe and easy to walk around, a nice break from the bigger cities. I especially loved breakfast each morning in the sunlit room, with the windows open and a gentle breeze coming in from the mountains. Everyone in our group of nine was happy with the stay.
