Agriturismo Il Casale Degli Amici

We visited with our two kids and loved the staff and food. We weren’t staying there, but the children were still allowed to use the pool. I’d recommend a visit.

We showed up without a reservation on Monday evening and got seated right away, with a view over the valley. The fresh food, well-matched wine, and excellent dessert made this perhaps our best dinner in Italy, after eating in Rome, Naples, Florence, Venice, and smaller places including Norcia. It’s worth going out of your way to visit.

The service was the standout for us. Francesco, our waiter, went out of his way to handle our requests, even picking fresh peppermint from the garden when we asked for tea. Ernesto, the owner, was always happy to chat and has a great personality that fits the relaxed feel of the place. The food was fresh, had plenty of vegetarian choices, and truffle was usually on the menu at no extra cost if you chose the meal plan. The pool is large and good for swimming, and the rooms are simple, rustic, and elegant, with everything you need. They’re in great condition after the earthquake, so we felt completely safe. It’s a lovely countryside retreat below the Apennines, cooler than nearby spots on hot summer days. The shower was especially good, with a strong, steady flow that we looked forward to after each day out. Castelluccio is about 40 minutes away, and Spello, Spoleto, Montefalco, and Assisi are about an hour away.

We had a delicious homemade lunch here, and the staff gave us attentive, personal service. The view is breathtaking, with the option to eat inside or outside. It’s easy to get to and parking is convenient. Casale degli Amici in Norcia is a great choice for a meal with family, friends, as a couple, or to mark a special occasion. I definitely recommend this Agriturismo.
