The Zahir sits in a truly beautiful part of Sicily, and the setting almost makes up for the rest. Almost. The suite was usable, but the shower didn’t work right, the safe wouldn’t lock and the jacuzzi was always cold. There was a damp feeling in the room that never went away. The property isn’t ruined, just worn down, like a place that was once cared for and now gets put up with. Little letdowns kept piling up. The food was good, but no more than that. After vivid, memorable meals elsewhere in Sicily, everything here felt muted and uninspired. Some staff made a real difference, while others seemed tired, maybe from a long season. There was a frustration in the air that I couldn’t quite identify. It didn’t seem aimed at guests, but it was there. When the weather and mosquitoes showed up, the staff seemed genuinely overwhelmed, as if neither were normal for a Sicilian October. What sticks with me is how much better the place could be. The setting deserves more.

We felt welcome from the start, thanks to Davide, Mariabruna, Shan and everyone else working there. They made our six-night stay feel special, and we’d love to come back. Our Vendicari room was bright, nicely furnished and opened onto the lovely gardens. Breakfast was generous, varied a little each day, and the orange jam is worth trying. The breakfast area was nice too. There’s plenty to do nearby, from Noto, Marzamemi and Scicli for visits or dinner to beaches and trails such as Ispica. We’d highly recommend it.

The hosts are incredibly friendly, and they treated our daughter like a princess. We love this quiet, beautiful natural paradise. Our room was lovely, and the house’s decor is quirky, fun and unique. The pool, surrounded by beautiful trees, is one of the nicest we’ve seen, with a relaxing place to lounge. We’d absolutely recommend it if you want a peaceful hideaway that’s still close to the island’s main sights.

The location is a real plus, near both Noto and the beach, and the pool was clean and well cared for, probably the hotel’s best feature. The rest of the stay was disappointing. We got the same cake, cheese and fruit at breakfast for three days in a row, and the food wasn’t fresh anymore. The rooms feel dated, and the fabric chairs in the breakfast area even had visible holes, which added to the neglected feel. Given the condition of the amenities and the lackluster breakfast, it didn’t feel worth the price. I wouldn’t recommend staying here unless they make serious updates.

We liked this place so much that we added two nights, extending our stay from three to five. The Calamosche suite had a fantastic terrace and view, and the staff were impressive. Special thanks to Simona for making our visit pleasant. This season, the hotel is working with Michelin-star chef Alberto Colamonici, who offers lunch, dinner and even cooking classes. One of the best meals of our trip, so don’t miss it. The location worked great for us: about 10 minutes from Noto, close to all the lovely beaches, and you can walk from the hotel through lemon and orange groves to the beach in a nature reserve.
