The hotel is very central and has parking, and it could be fine in winter or spring. But in summer, I really can’t recommend staying here. The air conditioning unit is insanely loud, like a jet engine blasting white noise.

Novara is a great area to explore on foot, and the hotel itself is a fascinating old building with lots of history. The room’s air conditioning was appreciated, but didn’t seem to work very well, so we opened the window instead. We’d been warned about mosquitoes, but it was too hot to sleep with the window closed, and we both ended up covered in bites. A mosquito screen would help. The bathroom layout was awkward. The toilet was too close to the shower, so you had to sit sideways; moving it into the bidet’s spot could make the room more usable. The man at the front desk was nice, but the breakfast staff member seemed grumpy. All four of us felt his negative mood, and even other guests looked uncomfortable. We could hear him sighing and clearing plates moodily on both mornings. The only time he didn’t seem angry was when we briefly saw him with his two coworkers. It made breakfast stressful and affected our stay.

The hotel has a lovely courtyard, and the rooms are clean and spacious. Parking for two days cost €26 including tax. Breakfast was good and everything fresh. I’d have liked scrambled eggs added to the selection.

The room was clean, and the air conditioning unit they provided was more than enough. The beds were small and on the firm side, which suited me. Breakfast was fresh and enjoyable, and the location worked well for a night.
