Colonna Hotel Du Golf

For families, there's lots to do here. We enjoyed the large pool with a lifeguard, the small private gulf beach on-site, and the frequent free shuttle to a bigger public beach. In July it wasn't too crowded. The music team and daily Aqua aerobics were especially enjoyable. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all very good, and the poolside bar had a nice snack menu. Our family room was very spacious, with a loft setup and walk-in closet, enough for four or five people. The air conditioning worked well. The facilities are aged, and the decor is a bit dated and worn, but everything was clean. There were plenty of phone charging outlets by the beds. The ping pong table is shaded but worn and needs replacing; we still enjoyed it. In summer, tennis and volleyball were only manageable very early or late in the day. The staff were kind, upbeat and helpful, including arranging a boat tour for me. The resort offers excellent value for the price. One drawback is that there are no sidewalks along the main road, so the small local restaurants about a 10-minute walk away didn't feel safe to reach on foot. There aren't nearby shops either, aside from a tiny on-site beach shop, so we took Uber everywhere. That wouldn't be an issue if you have a car. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone after a no-fuss, family-friendly resort.

The resort is pretty and well cared for, and I enjoyed the tasty dinner and the breakfast service. Our room was cleaned perfectly each day. I also loved the local orange cat that came by in the evenings. Getting around is the main challenge. It's a small resort in the middle of nowhere, so you'll need a car to reach a beach or the city. Taxis are very expensive, over 90€ for one 10-minute ride. There's a shuttle to one beach roughly twice a day, but I didn't use it. Outside the resort there's nowhere to go, and walking along the road is dangerous since there are no sidewalks and cars go fast. The resort can get boring quickly. The beds are the same in every room and small for taller people, 180 cm and above, though I managed to sleep well. Our AC worked, but only cooled downstairs. The air didn't reach upstairs, leaving it very cold below and very hot above. Since the two levels aren't separated by a wall, there was no privacy for any of the three people.

The reception was a disaster. The woman there seemed indifferent and rude, and didn't care about anything. As a guest, I felt completely unwelcome. The room was old, run-down and dirty. They advertise this as a four-star hotel, but after my stay that felt like a bad joke. Even two stars would be generous. I've contacted the tourism authority and asked them to reassess it because I feel guests are being scammed. This is the worst hotel I've experienced, and from the moment I walked in it felt like a bad movie, almost like a prison. Even JVA Werl probably looks cleaner and more humane. Travelers, avoid this hotel!

That pool is beautiful, but the rest of our stay at Colonna Hotel du Golf left me very disappointed. For the €3,000 I spent, I expected a lot more. The room wasn’t clean, breakfast was poor quality, and several staff members were rude and unwilling to help. The service and facilities didn’t feel worth the price, so I can’t recommend it. Guests should get better value for their money.
