The owners deserve a special thank you. They looked after me like family, kept checking what I needed, and were always ready with suggestions to help me enjoy my stay. I spent a wonderful week in Orta in the Dolcenotte room. It's small but fully equipped, just steps from the living room in Piazza Motta. During the day, the gentle water lapping against the pier made it feel especially peaceful. The room is right in the center of Orta and close to the Sacro Monte, where the view over the vast lake is breathtaking. In the middle of that clear water sits what I call the Island of Silence, with its monastery of cloistered nuns. It's a rare little jewel.
