Piccolo Hotel Olina

Finding the check-in spot was a struggle. The hotel is spread among buildings in different places, and I had to ask four local shopkeepers before I found the owner/manager in a restaurant. I’d booked rooms for myself and many guests because I was getting married, and we all had the same experience with the rude staff. One guest’s flight was cancelled, so they’d arrive after the already very short check-in hours. Since I was in town, I went to ask what we could do. I was told, “I have 50 guests and 20 rooms, don't ask me any questions,” then ignored. I was made to feel incredibly guilty and told the room would be moved to another building. When I asked how I’d find it, the answer was just “down there.” I asked for a map or location, but got two numbers that didn’t work on WhatsApp or when I tried calling. Please don’t stay here.

The experience was awful, and I won’t come back. I speak Italian, so I understood clearly what was being said, even though my friend tried explaining in Italian that I’d travelled a long way. The woman at reception kept shouting and didn’t seem to understand customer service. I’d called the person in charge to say I was running a little late. Later that evening, the owner of Piccolo Hotel Olina called asking, “where are you,” while I was literally outside, then continued abusing me when we reached reception. I’d only booked this place by chance because my usual hotel, La Bussola, was full. If you want somewhere picturesque, peaceful, and accommodating, I’d suggest La Bussola. Never again.

We paid only forty euros for two main courses and two desserts, including water, coffee, and a lovely complimentary starter, but no wine. The food was exquisite and the staff were very kind. A cozy little place in central Orta, just a couple of minutes from the main square.

Cheap, basic accommodation in a great spot. Just what we needed as a base for exploring.
