The parking is public, so there's no guarantee of getting a space. You have to be lucky. The room was cold, and I had to pile on all the blankets to stay warm. Breakfast, if you can call it that, was just bread and yogurt. Payment is cash only. Card payment is normal nowadays, and cash-only terms should be made clear to guests beforehand. Nobody clicked the policy link to check it, and the owner hadn't prepared change. Were guests expected to bring coins for the exact amount, or not ask for change? There was no explanation of the facilities. The owner was in hospital and his wife could only speak Italian. Maybe that's why.

The location is spectacular, just around the corner from the Duomo. Giacomo welcomed us warmly, made sure the room was cool with the air conditioning, and gave us a map with detailed suggestions for what to do in Orvieto. The room was clean, and it was a nice touch to have games on the table, though the checkers and playing cards were missing. Since I'm celiac, I appreciated that he left snacks and lactose-free milk in the fridge. The kitchenette and central location are useful extras, but not much more. Orvieto's center is beautiful but very small, so being right beside the cathedral doesn't make a huge difference. The bathroom is a little dated and has no bidet, which as an Italian I'd point out, even if that's nitpicking. And I wouldn't really call breakfast breakfast: you make coffee with a moka pot and have a snack, or bread with jam or yogurt. Payment is cash only. Parking is free only if you manage to find a space. Otherwise there's parking nearby, but it costs money.
