B&B Le Macine 1868

We loved having somewhere lovely to unwind in the evenings and get out of the heat. It felt like home. The house is well placed for a quick drive into Trapani, or for an aperitivo by the salt plains. Breakfast was lovely, too. Highly recommend!

The room was comfortable, and there’s private parking set back from the street. The bathroom wall stopped short at the top, so there wasn’t as much privacy as there could have been. The hosts were very hospitable and nice, even though they didn’t speak much English. The cats and dogs were friendly :) If you open a window, remember to pull down the screen or the mosquitoes will bother you all night. Breakfast was fresh fruit and cannoli.

The breakfast was a real highlight, and the mother took great pride in making sure we enjoyed it. There was enough food for breakfast and lunch, and her cannolis might be the best on the planet. The whole family welcomed us and paid attention to every detail. They spoke practically no English, which made the experience more fun. The mother was keen to hear about our travels in Italian. Sometimes I could translate for everyone, and sometimes I had to use Google translate. They’d surely never seen that before. Le Macine 1868 is close to Poggioreale, a town devastated by an earthquake and now abandoned. The ruins, with fig trees and wildflowers growing among them, were breathtakingly tragic and beautiful. The B&B itself is in a quiet residential development. It was a vineyard at first, and the family has kept its original character. The perfectly restored building dates from the 1800s, and the grounds are covered with lavender, roses, and orange trees. No detail seemed to have been missed.

The family, Massimo and his parents, were so lovely and did everything they could to make us feel at home. And the breakfast was delicious. My husband and I spent three months traveling all over Italy, and this was the best B&B we stayed at by far. If you're heading to Trapani, we'd really recommend it. It's only 7 kms from the city, and we didn't find a price like this anywhere nearby.
