Breakfast was good, and the other food was satisfying too. The part that felt awkward was how we were treated whenever we went to a restaurant: we were made to feel we should apologize for being there. They kept warning that service might take longer because only two people were in the kitchen, and asking us to check whether there was room. There was always space, and the food never took long, but the repeated warnings left a bad impression. The one real food issue was that we ordered burgers twice and seemed to get children's burgers because the regular ones weren't available. We stayed four nights in a ground-floor apartment with a lovely terrace, two bedrooms, and a living room. The property and location are beautiful, and the apartment had what we needed for a comfortable stay. The bathroom does need maintenance. Housekeeping never came during our stay. At over €300 a night, I think that's reasonable to expect. Dishes, glasses, and rubbish piled up, and we had to look for toilet paper ourselves. No one asked at checkout if we were happy, so I'm leaving this feedback here. It was a nice stay, but nearly €2,000 for four nights is a lot, and you can find better-maintained resorts for that price.

We really loved the location and all the space to relax, including two pools. The room had a fully equipped kitchen for anyone who wants to cook, and having a gym was a big bonus for us. Such a wonderful place. I highly recommend it.

What made us feel at home was how kindly everyone looked after us. At lunch we were craving Indian food, and the woman serving us at the Breakfast & wine bar first said it wasn't available. She noticed we hadn't had breakfast, insisted on calling the kitchen, and got them to make us a hot Indian meal. She was so sweet. That sort of care really stayed with me. The property is lovely, the views are great, and the service was perfect.

We stayed four nights and not once was the room cleaned or the towels changed. The property has no daily housekeeping. The room initially has some promise, with wooden furniture, terracotta-style floors, and warm colors, but the upkeep lets it down. The walls are scuffed and marked, with some poor repairs, and the furniture is scratched and worn. The bedroom is very cramped, with little space around the bed. There's barely any natural light, just a small partial window high on the wall, so it feels like a basement. Cleanliness was a real concern. On our first night there was a long hair in the shower. The bathroom had visible grime and mould, and the sealant around the tiles was deteriorating. The basic kitchenette is dated, and the soft furnishings look worn rather than deliberately vintage. The listing calls this a “rustic-chic” Tuscan retreat, but it feels rustic without the chic. Rustic should mean character and style, not poor upkeep or cleanliness. The way the property is advertised and photographed is misleading.

The staff were so sweet and patient with all my questions and requests, and we felt right at home while exploring the region. Karma Borgo, tucked into the Tuscan hills, was a lovely place for our magical Christmas week. Each villa, apartment, and suite has its own charm. The view from our window was enchanting, especially with a coffee. We went truffle hunting on the grounds with Tartufi di San Miniato, then made truffle pasta in our kitchen. We also put on classic records in the music and reading room, where we met new friends from around the world. The music room was beautifully dressed for Christmas and sits just above the dinner restaurant. The beds were cozy with down comforters, there were several heaters in the rooms, and the water was lovely for warm baths. There are two restaurants on site, and the food is very good. The property welcomes pets too. We met lots of dogs and the resident cats. Such a cozy place, highly recommended.
