Giuseppe and the cleaning lady were both kind. Giuseppe was always reachable, and you could enter the hostel at any hour. The rooms were clean, the bathrooms had been renovated and were very clean, and the air conditioning was built in. The balcony doors and windows kept out street noise, which mattered to me as a light sleeper. Joseph Hostel is a simple place, and this was our second stay there this month. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the central train and bus station, Ballaro market, and the city center. Walking to those places lets you experience different cultures and their wonderful hospitality. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants a normal place with street life and a mix of southern and northern Italian culture, rather than a luxury hotel.

The location was the one good thing. This was easily my worst experience. There was no hot water for two days and no breakfast, and the rooms were tiny. A very rude receptionist rushed into our room while people were getting dressed and told us to check out immediately, even though our friend had booked another night. There was nowhere secure to leave luggage. Right after checkout, he wouldn’t let me leave something for my friend or use the bathroom.

The room was noisy because there’s a pub on the street that’s open at night. The so-called double bed was two single beds pushed together, which wasn’t comfortable. Breakfast was very poor, just a packaged croissant, toast, and a glass of juice.

Everything was spotlessly clean, and they were very accommodating. The host even made our coffee personally. I’d recommend the place to my friends.

Our confirmed booking had somehow been “forgotten” when we arrived, and the room had been taken. The owner helped us find an alternative, which is why I’m giving two stars instead of one, but that option didn’t work out either. Sadly, a bad experience.
